Trust Sweet Iron French Link Gag – Training & Jumper Bit for Extra Lift and Control
Perfect for stronger or heavier horses in training or in the jumper ring, the Trust Sweet Iron French Link Gag offers a smart balance of leverage, lift, and refined communication.
The double‑jointed French link mouthpiece features a flat center plate that distributes pressure evenly across the tongue. With two pivot points and a more anatomical shape, this mouthpiece sits a bit looser and more comfortably in the horse’s mouth, helping to reduce pinching and nutcracker action while still providing clear, precise aids.
As a gag snaffle, this bit is designed to encourage the horse to raise its head and is often used on horses that tend to run behind the bit. When the rider takes contact, the mouthpiece slides upward, creating pressure in the corners of the mouth and at the poll (back of the neck). This combination of mouth and poll pressure can offer more control and help rebalance horses that get heavy or strong, especially in turns or on course.
The Trust Sweet Iron French Link Gag can be used with one or two reins, or with rein converters. Most riders prefer two reins:
- One rein attached to the main bit ring for everyday contact
- A second rein attached to a lower ring or the end of gag straps for added lift and control only when needed
This setup allows the rider to ride primarily off the snaffle action and engage the gag action selectively, making it a versatile option for experienced riders and trainers.
Made from Trust’s signature Sweet Iron, this bit has a distinctive blue finish that will gradually develop a brown‑gray patina as it oxidizes. This surface rust tastes naturally sweet, encouraging increased salivation and soft, foamy mouths for better bit acceptance and relaxation.
